a newly updated website

finally…..!

it’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally managed to update my website, which in part involved editing all of my images first before uploading them to the site

go on, take a look..

much of this was thanks to Brendan at Parade in Dublin, who took time to explain the intricacies of sRGB conversion, which I find very frustrating when you consider that working in RGB I always ensure that I am happy with the colours and contrast, only for it all to go to sh*t when it is converted for use on the web. Perhaps one day this won’t be the case, but for now it is the standard default colour space for the internet and so not using sRGB results in flat, dull images… that or we’ll all be shooting film again and it will be down to someone else to worry about these things! but as this is highly unlikely I’ve been spending a lot of time making sure I am happy with the images before publishing them to the web.

when you then consider that for printed work I also convert everything to CMYK, we have a whole different set of colour conversions taking place – slowly all of my external hard drives are being filled with three different versions of the same image all having different colour spaces.

CMYK conversion is something I find extremely easy to do however, having done a great deal of retouching and proofing for a wide range of projects, including Sainsburys Taste the Difference and Be Good To Yourself ranges. Perhaps if I had had to also convert these for the web it wouldn’t have been such a punishing process this time round!… but finally I am now happy with the process

in conclusion then, just make sure you convert all images you wish to display on the web to sRGB having reached a point where you are very happy with your RGB image. Confused? yes, me too… let’s stick to monochrome
